But you were unwilling to go up; you rebelled against the command of the Lord your God.
You grumbled in your tents and said, "The Lord hates us; so he brought us out of Egypt to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us.
Where can we go? Our brothers have made our hearts melt in fear. They say, 'The people are stronger and taller than we are; the cities are large, with walls up to the sky. We even saw the Anakites there.' "

They will stumble over one another as though fleeing from the sword, even though no one is pursuing them. So you will not be able to stand before your enemies.
至於你們剩下的人，我要使他們在仇敵之地心驚膽怯。葉子被風吹的響聲，要追趕他們；他們要逃避，像人逃避刀劍，無人追趕，卻要跌倒。
無人追趕，他們要彼此撞跌，像在刀劍之前。你們在仇敵面前也必站立不住。

Then the officers shall add, "Is anyone afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his fellow soldiers will not become disheartened too."

But he denied it. "Woman, I don't know him," he said.
A little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." "Man, I am not!" Peter replied.
About an hour later another asserted, "Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean."
Peter replied, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.
他們拿住耶穌，把他帶到大祭司的宅裡。彼得遠遠的跟著。
他們在院子裡生了火，一同坐著；彼得也坐在他們中間。
有一個使女看見彼得坐在火光裡，就定睛看他，說：「這個人素來也是同那人一夥的。」
彼得卻不承認，說：「女子，我不認得他。」

士師記 7:3
Now announce to the army, 'Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.' " So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.
現在你要向這些人宣告說：『凡懼怕膽怯的，可以離開基列山回去。』」於是有二萬二千人回去，只剩下一萬。

Whenever the Israelites saw the man, they all fled from him in great fear.

"I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mere mortals, human beings who are but grass,
that you forget the Lord your Maker, who stretches out the heavens and who lays the foundations of the earth, that you live in constant terror every day because of the wrath of the oppressor, who is bent on destruction? For where is the wrath of the oppressor?
惟有我，是安慰你們的。你是誰，竟怕那必死的人？怕那要變如草的世人？
卻忘記鋪張諸天、立定地基、創造你的耶和華？又因欺壓者圖謀毀滅要發的暴怒，整天害怕，其實那欺壓者的暴怒在那裡呢？

When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened.
門徒搖櫓，約行了十里多路，看見耶穌在海面上走，漸漸近了船，他們就害怕。

From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, "If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar."
When Pilate heard this, he brought Jesus out and sat down on the judge's seat at a place known as the Stone Pavement (which in Aramaic is Gabbatha).
It was the day of Preparation of the Passover; it was about noon. "Here is your king," Pilate said to the Jews.
But they shouted, "Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!" "Shall I crucify your king?" Pilate asked. "We have no king but Caesar," the chief priests answered.
Finally Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So the soldiers took charge of Jesus.
從此，彼拉多想要釋放耶穌，無奈猶太人喊著說：「你若釋放這個人，就不是該撒的忠臣（原文作朋友）。凡以自己為王的，就是背叛該撒了。」
彼拉多聽見這話，就帶耶穌出來，到了一個地方，名叫「鋪華石處」，希伯來話叫厄巴大，就在那裡坐堂。
那日是預備逾越節的日子，約有午正。彼拉多對猶太人說：「看哪，這是你們的王！」
他們喊著說：「除掉他！除掉他！釘他在十字架上！」彼拉多說：「我可以把你們的王釘十字架嗎？」祭司長回答說：「除了該撒，我們沒有王。」
於是彼拉多將耶穌交給他們去釘十字架。
出埃及記 32:22

"Do not be angry, my lord," Aaron answered. "You know how prone these people are to evil.
They said to me, 'Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don't know what has happened to him.'
So I told them, 'Whoever has any gold jewelry, take it off.' Then they gave me the gold, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf!"
亞倫說：「求我主不要發烈怒。這百姓專於作惡，是你知道的。
他們對我說：『你為我們做神像，可以在我們前面引路；因為領我們出埃及地的那個摩西，我們不知道他遭了什麼事。』
我對他們說：『凡有金環的可以摘下來』，他們就給了我。我把金環扔在火中，這牛犢便出來了。」
約書亞記 5:1
Now when all the Amorite kings west of the Jordan and all the Canaanite kings along the coast heard how the Lord had dried up the Jordan before the Israelites until they had crossed over, their hearts melted in fear and they no longer had the courage to face the Israelites.
約但河西亞摩利人的諸王和靠海迦南人的諸王，聽見耶和華在以色列人前面使約但河的水乾了，等到我們過去，他們的心因以色列人的緣故就消化了，不再有膽氣。

以色列百姓見自己危急窘迫，就藏在山洞、叢林、石穴、隱密處，和坑中。

Jacob answered Laban, "I was afraid, because I thought you would take your daughters away from me by force.

that you will spare the lives of my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them-and that you will save us from death."
"Our lives for your lives!" the men assured her. "If you don't tell what we are doing, we will treat you kindly and faithfully when the Lord gives us the land."

Distress and anguish fill him with terror; troubles overwhelm him, like a king poised to attack,
急難困苦叫他害怕，而且勝了他，好像君王預備上陣一樣。

Now Peter was sitting out in the courtyard, and a servant girl came to him. "You also were with Jesus of Galilee," she said.
But he denied it before them all. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said.
Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, "This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth."
He denied it again, with an oath: "I don't know the man!"
After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, "Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away."
Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, "I don't know the man!" Immediately a rooster crowed.

"Where is your faith?" he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."
耶穌對他們說：「你們的信心在那裡呢？」他們又懼怕又希奇，彼此說：「這到底是誰？他吩咐風和水，連風和水也聽從他了。」
約翰福音 12:42

Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;
for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
雖然如此，官長中卻有好些信他的，只因法利賽人的緣故，就不承認，恐怕被趕出會堂。
這是因他們愛人的榮耀過於愛神的榮耀。

Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn't it be better for us to go back to Egypt?"
And they said to each other, "We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt."
Then Moses and Aaron fell facedown in front of the whole Israelite assembly gathered there.
當下，全會眾大聲喧嚷；那夜百姓都哭號。
以色列眾人向摩西、亞倫發怨言；全會眾對他們說：「巴不得我們早死在埃及地，或是死在這曠野。
耶和華為什麼把我們領到那地，使我們倒在刀下呢？我們的妻子和孩子必被擄掠。我們回埃及去豈不好嗎？」
眾人彼此說：「我們不如立一個首領回埃及去吧！」
摩西、亞倫就俯伏在以色列全會眾面前。
撒母耳記上 16:2
But Samuel said, "How can I go? If Saul hears about it, he will kill me." The Lord said, "Take a heifer with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.'

The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

While Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came by.
When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked closely at him. "You also were with that Nazarene, Jesus," she said.
But he denied it. "I don't know or understand what you're talking about," he said, and went out into the entryway.
When the servant girl saw him there, she said again to those standing around, "This fellow is one of them."
Again he denied it. After a little while, those standing near said to Peter, "Surely you are one of them, for you are a Galilean."
He began to call down curses, and he swore to them, "I don't know this man you're talking about."
Immediately the rooster crowed the second time. Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows twice14:72Some early manuscripts do not have twice. you will disown me three times." And he broke down and wept.
彼得在下邊院子裡；來了大祭司的一個使女，
見彼得烤火，就看著他，說：「你素來也是同拿撒勒人耶穌一夥的。」
彼得卻不承認，說：「我不知道，也不明白你說的是什麼。」於是出來，到了前院，雞就叫了。
那使女看見他，又對旁邊站著的人說：「這也是他們一黨的。」
彼得又不承認。過了不多的時候，旁邊站著的人又對彼得說：「你真是他們一黨的！因為你是加利利人。」
彼得就發咒起誓的說：「我不認得你們說的這個人。」
立時雞叫了第二遍。彼得想起耶穌對他所說的話：「雞叫兩遍以先，你要三次不認我。」思想起來，就哭了。
使徒行傳 16:27
The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.
禁卒一醒，看見監門全開，以為囚犯已經逃走，就拔刀要自殺。
撒母耳記下 15:13

A messenger came and told David, "The hearts of the people of Israel are with Absalom."
Then David said to all his officials who were with him in Jerusalem, "Come! We must flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. We must leave immediately, or he will move quickly to overtake us and bring ruin on us and put the city to the sword."
The king's officials answered him, "Your servants are ready to do whatever our lord the king chooses."
The king set out, with his entire household following him; but he left ten concubines to take care of the palace.
So the king set out, with all the people following him, and they halted at the edge of the city.
有人報告大衛說：「以色列人的心都歸向押沙龍了！」
大衛就對耶路撒冷跟隨他的臣僕說：「我們要起來逃走，不然都不能躲避押沙龍了；要速速地去，恐怕他忽然來到，加害於我們，用刀殺盡合城的人。」
王的臣僕對王說：「我主我王所定的，僕人都願遵行。」
於是王帶著全家的人出去了，但留下十個妃嬪看守宮殿。
王出去，眾民都跟隨他，到伯墨哈，就住下了。

but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in.
"You aren't one of this man's disciples too, are you?" she asked Peter. He replied, "I am not."
彼得卻站在門外。大祭司所認識的那個門徒出來，和看門的使女說了一聲，就領彼得進去。

When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned.
For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.
The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.
When I saw that they were not acting in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all, "You are a Jew, yet you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew. How is it, then, that you force Gentiles to follow Jewish customs?
後來，磯法到了安提阿；因他有可責之處，我就當面抵擋他。
從雅各那裡來的人未到以先，他和外邦人一同吃飯，及至他們來到，他因怕奉割禮的人，就退去與外邦人隔開了。
其餘的猶太人也都隨著他裝假，甚至連巴拿巴也隨夥裝假。
但我一看見他們行的不正，與福音的真理不合，就在眾人面前對磯法說：「你既是猶太人，若隨外邦人行事，不隨猶太人行事，怎麼還勉強外邦人隨猶太人呢？」
