- 19
'Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker?
If God places no trust in his servants, if he charges his angels with error,
how much more those who live in houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who are crushed more readily than a moth!
主不信靠他的臣僕,並且指他的使者為愚昧;
- 14
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.
That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil-this is the gift of God.
I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.
我知道世人,莫強如終身喜樂行善;
Not at all! Let God be true, and every human being a liar. As it is written: "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge."
- 12
"Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
They are higher than the heavens above-what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below-what can you know?
Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.
"If he comes along and confines you in prison and convenes a court, who can oppose him?
Surely he recognizes deceivers; and when he sees evil, does he not take note?
But the witless can no more become wise than a wild donkey's colt can be born human.
"Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself?
You asked, 'Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?' Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
