(The Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, and that there are neither angels nor spirits, but the Pharisees believe all these things.)

Therefore the Lord's anger burns against his people; his hand is raised and he strikes them down. The mountains shake, and the dead bodies are like refuse in the streets. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.
火苗怎樣吞滅碎稓，乾草怎樣落在火焰之中，照樣，他們的根必像朽物，他們的花必像灰塵飛騰；因為他們厭棄萬軍之耶和華的訓誨，藐視以色列聖者的言語。

When such a person hears the words of this oath and they invoke a blessing on themselves, thinking, "I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way," they will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry.
The Lord will never be willing to forgive them; his wrath and zeal will burn against them. All the curses written in this book will fall on them, and the Lord will blot out their names from under heaven.

你們民間的畜類人當思想；你們愚頑人到幾時才有智慧呢？
造耳朵的，難道自己不聽見嗎？造眼睛的，難道自己不看見嗎？

Jerusalem staggers, Judah is falling; their words and deeds are against the Lord, defying his glorious presence.
耶路撒冷敗落，猶大傾倒；因為他們的舌頭和行為與耶和華反對，惹了他榮光的眼目。

Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood!

Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem.
You boast, "We have entered into a covenant with death, with the realm of the dead we have made an agreement. When an overwhelming scourge sweeps by, it cannot touch us, for we have made a lie our refuge and falsehood our hiding place."
所以，你們這些褻慢的人，就是轄管住在耶路撒冷這百姓的，要聽耶和華的話。
你們曾說：我們與死亡立約，與陰間結盟；敵軍（原文作鞭子）如水漲漫經過的時候，必不臨到我們；因我們以謊言為避所，在虛假以下藏身。
以賽亞書 28:17

I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line; hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie, and water will overflow your hiding place.
Your covenant with death will be annulled; your agreement with the realm of the dead will not stand. When the overwhelming scourge sweeps by, you will be beaten down by it.
As often as it comes it will carry you away; morning after morning, by day and by night, it will sweep through." The understanding of this message will bring sheer terror.
The bed is too short to stretch out on, the blanket too narrow to wrap around you.
The Lord will rise up as he did at Mount Perazim, he will rouse himself as in the Valley of Gibeon- to do his work, his strange work, and perform his task, his alien task.
Now stop your mocking, or your chains will become heavier; the Lord, the Lord Almighty, has told me of the destruction decreed against the whole land.
我必以公平為準繩，以公義為線鉈。冰雹必沖去謊言的避所；大水必漫過藏身之處。
你們與死亡所立的約必然廢掉，與陰間所結的盟必立不住。敵軍（原文作鞭子）如水漲漫經過的時候，你們必被他踐踏；
每逢經過必將你們擄去。因為每早晨他必經過，白晝黑夜都必如此。明白傳言的必受驚恐。
原來，床榻短，使人不能舒身；被窩窄，使人不能遮體。
耶和華必興起，像在毗拉心山；他必發怒，像在基遍谷，好做成他的工，就是非常的工；成就他的事，就是奇異的事。
現在你們不可褻慢，恐怕捆你們的綁索更結實了；因為我從主萬軍之耶和華那裡聽見，已經決定在全地上施行滅絕的事。
以賽亞書 29:15
- 16
Woe to those who go to great depths to hide their plans from the Lord, who do their work in darkness and think, "Who sees us? Who will know?"
You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay! Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, "You did not make me"? Can the pot say to the potter, "You know nothing"?
禍哉！那些向耶和華深藏謀略的，又在暗中行事，說：誰看見我們呢？誰知道我們呢？
你們把事顛倒了，豈可看窯匠如泥嗎？被製作的物豈可論製作物的說：他沒有製作我？或是被創造的物論造物的說：他沒有聰明？
以賽亞書 45:9
- 10
"Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say, 'The potter has no hands'?
Woe to the one who says to a father, 'What have you begotten?' or to a mother, 'What have you brought to birth?'
禍哉，那與造他的主爭論的！他不過是地上瓦片中的一塊瓦片。泥土豈可對摶弄他的說：你做什麼呢？所做的物豈可說：你沒有手呢？
禍哉，那對父親說：你生的是什麼呢？或對母親（原文作婦人）說：你產的是什麼呢？
耶利米書 45:3
You said, 'Woe to me! The Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.'
巴錄（原文作你）曾說：『哀哉！耶和華將憂愁加在我的痛苦上，我因唉哼而困乏，不得安歇。』

I have been deprived of peace; I have forgotten what prosperity is.
So I say, "My splendor is gone and all that I had hoped from the Lord."
