路加福音 9:23 - 24
Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
耶穌又對眾人說：「若有人要跟從我，就當捨己，天天背起他的十字架來跟從我。因為，凡要救自己生命（生命：或作靈魂；下同）的，必喪掉生命；凡為我喪掉生命的，必救了生命。

約翰福音 16:26
In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.
到那日，你們要奉我的名祈求；我並不對你們說，我要為你們求父。

約翰福音 6:66
From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.
從此，他門徒中多有退去的，不再和他同行。

路加福音 14:25 - 27
Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: "If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters-yes, even their own life-such a person cannot be my disciple. And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
有極多的人和耶穌同行。他轉過來對他們說：「人到我這裡來，若不愛我勝過愛（愛我勝過愛：原文作恨）自己的父母、妻子、兒女、弟兄、姐妹，和自己的性命，就不能作我的門徒。凡不背著自己十字架跟從我的，也不能作我的門徒。

約翰福音 6:60
On hearing it, many of his disciples said, "This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?"
他的門徒中有好些人聽見了，就說：「這話甚難，誰能聽呢？」

路加福音 14:33
In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.
這樣，你們無論什麼人，若不撇下一切所有的，就不能作我的門徒。」

約翰福音 6:68
Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
西門彼得回答說：「主啊，你有永生之道，我們還歸從誰呢？
