And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need. Be careful not to harbor this wicked thought: "The seventh year, the year for canceling debts, is near," so that you do not show ill will toward the needy among your fellow Israelites and give them nothing. They may then appeal to the Lord against you, and you will be found guilty of sin. Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land. If any of your people-Hebrew men or women-sell themselves to you and serve you six years, in the seventh year you must let them go free. And when you release them, do not send them away empty-handed. Supply them liberally from your flock, your threshing floor and your winepress. Give to them as the Lord your God has blessed you. Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and the Lord your God redeemed you. That is why I give you this command today.

I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

But since you excel in everything-in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you -see that you also excel in this grace of giving. I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. And here is my judgment about what is best for you in this matter. Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so. Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means. For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality. At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality, as it is written: "The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little."
弟兄們,我把神賜給馬其頓眾教會的恩告訴你們, 就是他們在患難中受大試煉的時候,仍有滿足的快樂,在極窮之間還格外顯出他們樂捐的厚恩。 我可以證明,他們是按著力量,而且也過了力量,自己甘心樂意的捐助, 再三的求我們,准他們在這供給聖徒的恩情上有分; 並且他們所做的,不但照我們所想望的,更照神的旨意先把自己獻給主,又歸附了我們。 因此我勸提多,既然在你們中間開辦這慈惠的事,就當辦成了。 你們既然在信心、口才、知識、熱心,和待我們的愛心上,都格外顯出滿足來,就當在這慈惠的事上也格外顯出滿足來。 我說這話,不是吩咐你們,乃是藉著別人的熱心試驗你們愛心的實在。 你們知道我們主耶穌基督的恩典:他本來富足,卻為你們成了貧窮,叫你們因他的貧窮,可以成為富足。 我在這事上把我的意見告訴你們,是與你們有益;因為你們下手辦這事,而且起此心意,已經有一年了, 如今就當辦成這事。既有願做的心,也當照你們所有的去辦成。 因為人若有願做的心,必蒙悅納,乃是照他所有的,並不是照他所無的。 我原不是要別人輕省,你們受累, 乃要均平,就是要你們的富餘,現在可以補他們的不足,使他們的富餘,將來也可以補你們的不足,這就均平了。 如經上所記:多收的也沒有餘;少收的也沒有缺。

If any woman who is a believer has widows in her care, she should continue to help them and not let the church be burdened with them, so that the church can help those widows who are really in need.
信主的婦女,若家中有寡婦,自己就當救濟他們,不可累著教會,好使教會能救濟那真無倚靠的寡婦。

尼希米記 5:8 - 12
and said: "As far as possible, we have bought back our fellow Jews who were sold to the Gentiles. Now you are selling your own people, only for them to be sold back to us!" They kept quiet, because they could find nothing to say. So I continued, "What you are doing is not right. Shouldn't you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of our Gentile enemies? I and my brothers and my men are also lending the people money and grain. But let us stop charging interest! Give back to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves and houses, and also the interest you are charging them-one percent of the money, grain, new wine and olive oil." "We will give it back," they said. "And we will not demand anything more from them. We will do as you say." Then I summoned the priests and made the nobles and officials take an oath to do what they had promised.
我對他們說:「我們盡力贖回我們弟兄,就是賣與外邦的猶大人;你們還要賣弟兄,使我們贖回來嗎?」他們就靜默不語,無話可答。 我又說:「你們所行的不善!你們行事不當敬畏我們的神嗎?不然,難免我們的仇敵外邦人毀謗我們。 我和我的弟兄與僕人也將銀錢糧食借給百姓;我們大家都當免去利息。 如今我勸你們將他們的田地、葡萄園、橄欖園、房屋,並向他們所取的銀錢、糧食、新酒,和油,百分之一的利息都歸還他們。」 眾人說:「我們必歸還,不再向他們索要,必照你的話行。」我就召了祭司來,叫眾人起誓,必照著所應許的而行。
