約翰福音 1:19
- 25
Now this was John's testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was.
He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, "I am not the Messiah."
They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."
Finally they said, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"
John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, 'Make straight the way for the Lord.' "
Now the Pharisees who had been sent
questioned him, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Messiah, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"
約翰所作的見證記在下面：猶太人從耶路撒冷差祭司和利未人到約翰那裡，問他說：「你是誰？」
他就明說，並不隱瞞，明說：「我不是基督。」
他們又問他說：「這樣，你是誰呢？是以利亞嗎？」他說：「我不是。」「是那先知嗎？」他回答說：「不是。」

他說：「我就是那在曠野有人聲喊著說：『修直主的道路』，正如先知以賽亞所說的。」
那些人是法利賽人差來的（或作：那差來的是法利賽人）；
他們就問他說：「你既不是基督，不是以利亞，也不是那先知，為什麼施洗呢？」
路加福音 1:13

But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to call him John.
He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth,
for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born.
He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God.
And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous-to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
天使對他說：「撒迦利亞，不要害怕，因為你的祈禱已經被聽見了。你的妻子以利沙伯要給你生一個兒子，你要給他起名叫約翰。
你必歡喜快樂；有許多人因他出世，也必喜樂。
他在主面前將要為大，淡酒濃酒都不喝，從母腹裡就被聖靈充滿了。
他要使許多以色列人回轉，歸於主他們的神。
他必有以利亞的心志能力，行在主的前面，叫為父的心轉向兒女，叫悖逆的人轉從義人的智慧，又為主預備合用的百姓。」
約翰福音 1:21
They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."
他們又問他說：「這樣，你是誰呢？是以利亞嗎？」他說：「我不是。」「是那先知嗎？」他回答說：「不是。」
馬太福音 17:11
- 13
Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.
But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."
Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.
耶穌回答說：「以利亞固然先來，並要復興萬事；
只是我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人卻不認識他，竟任意待他。人子也將要這樣受他們的害。」
門徒這才明白耶穌所說的是指著施洗的約翰。
馬太福音 11:11
Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
我實在告訴你們，凡婦人所生的，沒有一個興起來大過施洗約翰的；然而天國裡最小的比他還大。
路加福音 1:57

When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son.
Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.
On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah,
but his mother spoke up and said, "No! He is to be called John."
They said to her, "There is no one among your relatives who has that name."
Then they made signs to his father, to find out what he would like to name the child.
He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone's astonishment he wrote, "His name is John."
Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God.
All the neighbors were filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things.
Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, "What then is this child going to be?" For the Lord's hand was with him.
以利沙伯的產期到了，就生了一個兒子。
鄰里親族聽見主向他大施憐憫，就和他一同歡樂。
到了第八日，他們來要給孩子行割禮，並要照他父親的名字叫他撒迦利亞。
他母親說：「不可！要叫他約翰。」
他們說：「你親族中沒有叫這名字的。」
他們就向他父親打手式，問他要叫這孩子什麼名字。
他要了一塊寫字的板，就寫上，說：「他的名字是約翰。」他們便都希奇。
撒迦利亞的口立時開了，舌頭也舒展了，就說出話來，稱頌神。
周圍居住的人都懼怕；這一切的事就傳遍了猶太的山地。
凡聽見的人都將這事放在心裡，說：「這個孩子將來怎麼樣呢？」因為有主與他同在。
約翰福音 10:41
and many people came to him. They said, "Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true."
有許多人來到他那裡。他們說：「約翰一件神蹟沒有行過，但約翰指著這人所說的一切話都是真的。」
